WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE FIRST TEE GOLF CAMP?

The First Tee Golf Camp is focused on developing strong golf fundamentals and skills while learning the rules and etiquette of the game. Campers will have the chance to apply what they learn through a variety of games and competitions according to age and skill level. The First Tee coaches and summer staff look forward to helping junior golfers of all abilities realize their full potential by providing a fun-filled week of instruction and The First Tee life skills curriculum. Our coaches and summer staff bring incredible enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge to our camps. We are committed to helping each camper become a better player and have an appreciation for the game of golf.

MY CHILD IS A MORE DEVELOPED PLAYER, OR, MY CHILD IS A BEGINNER – IS THIS CAMP FOR HIM/HER?

Yes. Whether your child is a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, our staff will be focused on teaching each participant to become a student of the game and reach their potential. To ensure that all campers are comfortable, The First Tee Golf Camp will group participants based on skill level and age. Each group will work on golf fundamentals, player development skills, course management and the rules and etiquette of the game appropriate to the target age group. Campers will have the opportunity to apply what they learn through both team and individual competitions. The First Tee wants your child to become a confident player this summer!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE HALF DAY CAMP AND THE FULL DAY CAMP?

The Half Day Camp will introduce junior golfers to golf skills, The First Tee Nine Core Values and life skills, and The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits through a seamless delivery of games and activities. Each day will begin with a warm-up session focused on building strength, flexibility, agility, balance, and object control. Half Day Campers will then be divided into groups according to skill level and age for a daily rotation of targeted golf skill stations. In addition, each group will also learn the rules of the game focus on mental golf skills and activities. The Full Day Camp will invite juniors to stay for an additional three hours, allowing junior golfers to dive deeper into golf skills and golf fundamentals. Full Day Campers will be exposed to a greater understanding of the ‘factors-of-influence’ pertaining to the game of golf. Such factors include body-movement patterns and golf fitness, golf club dynamics and swing analysis, course management and on-course strategy through on-course play, and the rules and etiquette of the game. Full Day Campers will be introduced to personal practice drills to promote ‘purposeful individual practice.’ Full Day Campers will also have break-out sessions to discuss topics such as competitive play (league or tournament play), middle school and high school team play, and college prep. The Full Day Camp will offer a more in-depth golf instruction camp for junior golfers. Come prepared to work hard but play harder!

WHO WILL BE LEADING AND TEACHING THE FIRST TEE SUMMER CAMP?

The First Tee Summer Camp will be led by two of our very own First Tee alumni. Sterling Simmons, Player Development Instructor, and Brittany Woo, Director of Programming, "graduated" from First Tee of Greater Richmond in 2014 and will be managing all summer camp efforts. In addition, First Tee of Greater Richmond hires an all-star summer staff of college students with a passion for junior golf, youth development, and spreading First Tee's mission.
